On Anzac Day 2017, Nick's Run Club held its inaugural beep test at the Coogee Oval. James Constantine started proceedings off with a fitting observation of the last post, remembering those who fought and fight so bravely so we can enjoy events like today. Lest we forget!
The Beep Test, for those unfamiliar with the concept, is an endurance fitness test, usually conducted as part of high school PE assessments, sports team fitness training, or amateur run clubs having a laugh and the whatnot. Essentially, get from one end of a 20m shuttle to the other before the beep. Simple, right? Nein! As the number of sets increases, the shuttle time decreases, and the number of repetitions increases hence one definitely "feels the pump!"
The task was brutal(-ly fun!). As the lactic built up, the laughs turned to heavy breathing, runners dropped like flies, until there were 6, 5, 4, 3, and eventually 2. James Constantine and Tim Mathas sprinted hard, until #IronMathas remained the victor, nudging level 13 to take the win and be crowned the 2017 das Beep Test winner.
